SILMO Bangkok 2019 – Shines in ASEAN Community

Being a popular tourist destination for travellers from all over the world, the changes of the Bangkok in recent years are obvious to all, to be specific, in the realm of fashion industry and cultural atmosphere. It has grown more mature and diverse, reaffirming itself as the fashion center of ASEAN. The entire ASEAN region is gradually changing the perception of glasses especially when eyewear has become increasingly inseparable from the fashion world. Wearers do not rely on contact lenses that much as they used to, which leads to greater demand for eyewear products and optometry services. As a result, an exhibition for the optical industry in the ASEAN region – Silmo Bangkok in Thailand came into being.

Silmo Bangkok, which entered the second year this year, is in the stage of absorbing experience and accumulating reputation. Under the support of SILMO Family and the organizer IMPACT, there are more international brands participating in this year. Silmo Bangkok was successfully held on June 5-7, 2019. In this edition, over 250 eyewear brands from 15 countries participated in the exhibition. Besides showcasing the latest eyewear collections in ASEAN, innovative optometric instruments and advanced technological equipment were also introduced. With those innovations and technology, the industry in Thailand and ASEAN countries were exposed to more digital high-tech, which is also in line with Thailand 4.0 policy. Through the introduction of innovative technology, the optical industry will benefit from the economic reform in the 4.0 era. In addition to the individual exhibitors, there were French, Korean and Italian pavilions condensing group of international brands that want to enter the ASEAN market.

Exclusive Eyewear Fashion Show was held everyday at the 3-day exhibition, featuring brands such as Blake Kuwahara, Boz Illusion, DITA, Etnia Barcelona, Gentle Fendi, UNSUIKYO, Lio, Nara E, etc. Grace Kanklao, the popular Thai Actress was also invited to be the lead on the first show, catching a lot of attention from the crowds. Besides, the SILMO Pop-Up Store is also a must-visit area for the visitors. This eyewear gallery shines the spotlight on uniquely designed collections.

In order to motivate the emergence of more local eyewear designers, IMPACT organized SILMO Bangkok Eyewear Design Contest 2019 for the second consecutive year. Entries of 30 finalists were displayed at the fair and three winners were announced on Friday 7 June 2019. The top three winners have been rewarded with prizes worth more than 120,000THB and will have their designs showcased at SILMO Paris 2019.
